Cortagen is a synthetic tetrapeptide, alanine-glutamic acid-aspartic acid-proline (Ala-Glu-Asp-Pro, or AEDP), designed by Vladimir Khavinson’s group in St Petersburg from the amino-acid composition of the brain-cortex extract cortexin. It has been studied in rats for nerve regeneration after sciatic nerve injury and for effects on brain ischaemia and oxidative stress, and in cell studies for effects on immune cells and chromatin. There are no controlled human trials, almost all of the research comes from one group, and it is not an approved medicine. Read the full Cortagen guide, with the published research and references.

Most research peptides are sold as freeze-dried (lyophilised) powder in sealed vials, which is mixed with a diluent such as bacteriostatic water before use in the lab. Some suppliers also sell pre-mixed solutions, nasal sprays or capsules under the same name. These are different products with different stability and dosing, so compare price per mg only between the same form, and check which form a listing is before comparing it with the rest of the table.

Ask for a certificate of analysis for the batch being sold, and check that it names the laboratory, the batch number and the test date, and that it confirms identity by mass spectrometry as well as purity by HPLC.
