Regulatory status
Levocarnitine is a licensed prescription medicine for carnitine deficiency in the UK and US, and a legal food supplement at oral doses. Injectable vials sold as 'research' products are not approved medicines.
In Europe the regulator is the European Medicines Agency (EMA), with each country's own medicines regulator. Rules on buying, importing and using this product differ by country. Suppliers list it for laboratory research; nothing here is medical advice.

L-Carnitine (levocarnitine) is a small amino-acid derivative that the body makes and that meat supplies, and its job is to carry long-chain fatty acids into mitochondria so they can be burned. It is a licensed prescription medicine for carnitine deficiency in the UK and the US, a legal food supplement at oral doses, and, in the form of injectable vials sold by peptide stores, an unlicensed injectable marketed for fat loss. It is not a peptide. The trial record shows a modest average weight loss of around a kilogram in overweight adults, a muscle carnitine rise that took months of oral dosing with carbohydrate, and a gut-bacteria concern about TMAO that is still being argued over. Read the full L-Carnitine guide, with the published research and references.

Price per mg is only half the comparison. Check that the supplier publishes a certificate of analysis for the batch it is selling, ideally from an independent laboratory, and that the certificate confirms identity as well as purity: our guide on how to read a COA shows what to look for. A price far below the rest of the list is more often a warning than a bargain; peptide prices explained sets out why.
For what L-Carnitine is and what published studies have found, see our L-Carnitine guide. Handling questions are covered in how to store peptides, and the peptide calculator converts a vial size and water volume into concentration and syringe units. Rules on buying and importing differ by country: read are peptides legal in Europe? and see all suppliers serving Europe.
How to spot a fake peptide supplier explains each of these in more detail, and third-party peptide testing covers what independent results can and cannot prove.
Most research peptides are sold as freeze-dried (lyophilised) powder in sealed vials, which is mixed with a diluent such as bacteriostatic water before use in the lab. Some suppliers also sell pre-mixed solutions, nasal sprays or capsules under the same name. These are different products with different stability and dosing, so compare price per mg only between the same form, and check which form a listing is before comparing it with the rest of the table.
3 of the suppliers PepFinder tracks list L-Carnitine and are based in or ship to Europe. The highest rated are RCpeptides, Beyond Peptides, Regena Peptides. The list on this page is ranked by PepFinder Score, which weighs reliability, delivery, pricing, support and customer reviews, with stores based in Europe placed before those shipping in from abroad; nobody pays to be included or to rank higher.
Suppliers on this page list L-Carnitine in Carnitine - 500-mg, 1, 5000mg. Most research peptides are sold as freeze-dried powder in sealed vials; capsules, sprays and pre-mixed solutions are different products, so compare price per mg only between the same form.
Across the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland, a peptide that counts as a medicine cannot be placed on the market without an authorisation, and peptides sold as research products have none; penalties, possession rules and doping laws are set by each country and differ. Our page on whether peptides are legal in Europe sets out the rules with a link to every source. This is general information, not legal advice.
Personal import rules are set nationally and differ widely: for example, Norway stops medicines sent by post, Austria says importing unauthorised peptide products is prohibited, and Switzerland allows one month's supply of a medicine for your own use but takes a zero-tolerance approach to doping substances. Each supplier on this page shows where it is based, so you can see whether an order would cross a border.
Ask for a certificate of analysis for the batch being sold, and check that it names the laboratory, the batch number and the test date, and that it confirms identity by mass spectrometry as well as purity by HPLC. PepFinder has not yet collected certificates for L-Carnitine from these suppliers, so check each supplier's own site.
How this list is built: suppliers appear because they list L-Carnitine on their own website, read by our catalogue checks; nobody pays to be included or to move up. Ranking is by PepFinder Score. Prices, sizes and stock are as each site listed them when checked and may have changed. Provisional scores are based on incomplete research.
