Humanin is a 24-amino-acid peptide encoded inside mitochondrial DNA, discovered in 2001 in a search for something that protected brain cells from Alzheimer’s-related damage. It was the first mitochondrial-derived peptide found, and levels in human blood fall with age and track several measures of health. Almost all of the treatment evidence comes from cells and animals, usually using the more potent analogue S14G-humanin rather than humanin itself, and no trial has given humanin to people. Most research peptides are sold as freeze-dried (lyophilised) powder in sealed vials, which is mixed with a diluent such as bacteriostatic water before use in the lab. Some suppliers also sell pre-mixed solutions, nasal sprays or capsules under the same name. These are different products with different stability and dosing, so compare price per mg only between the same form, and check which form a listing is before comparing it with the rest of the table.
