ACE-031 (ramatercept) is a fusion protein made from the outer part of the activin receptor type IIB joined to the Fc portion of human IgG1. It works as a decoy, soaking up myostatin and related proteins that limit muscle growth. A single dose increased lean mass in healthy volunteers, but a trial in boys with Duchenne muscular dystrophy was stopped in 2011 over nosebleeds and dilated skin blood vessels, development ended, and most products sold under the name have been found to contain a different protein. Most research peptides are sold as freeze-dried (lyophilised) powder in sealed vials, which is mixed with a diluent such as bacteriostatic water before use in the lab.
