Oxytocin is a nine-amino-acid hormone made in the hypothalamus and released from the pituitary gland. As a prescription medicine (Pitocin, Syntocinon and generic oxytocin infusions) it is one of the most widely used drugs in obstetrics, given by intravenous drip to induce or strengthen labour and to prevent bleeding after birth. The same peptide is sold online as a nasal spray or research vial on the strength of studies of trust, social behaviour, appetite and autism, most of which were small, and the largest of which were negative. Most research peptides are sold as freeze-dried (lyophilised) powder in sealed vials, which is mixed with a diluent such as bacteriostatic water before use in the lab. Some suppliers also sell pre-mixed solutions, nasal sprays or capsules under the same name. These are different products with different stability and dosing, so compare price per mg only between the same form, and check which form a listing is before comparing it with the rest of the table.

Ask for a certificate of analysis for the batch being sold, and check that it names the laboratory, the batch number and the test date, and that it confirms identity by mass spectrometry as well as purity by HPLC.
